Job description

Keen to participate in the technical challenges of future silent aircraft?

In the framework of the European Project COMPANION, dedicated to preparing full-scale flight test campaigns for new engine architectures in close cooperation with Airbus, DLR, ONERA and other partners, the Aeroacoustic Team of the Laboratoire de Mécanique des Fluides et d’Acoustique (LMFA) at the Ecole Centrale de Lyon (ECL), is seeking a Postdoctoral candidate to join the adventure of designing low noise aircraft within a passionate, highly skilled and dynamic team!

The team:

The Aeroacoustic Team at LMFA focuses on aerodynamic noise source and propagation modelling, acoustic testing and advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics and Computational AeroAcoustics (CFD - CAA).

Your mission:

As future turbofans are developed to meet greenhouse gas emission requirements, the need to mitigate noise radiation at the early design stage becomes crucial. In this fellowship, your primary focus will be on understanding the physics of acoustic energy transmission from the Inlet Guide Vanes (IGV) of the primary flow to the Outlet Guide Vanes (OGV), as well as the modal redistribution from fully annular to bifurcated annular ducts. This involves utilizing and extending dedicated numerical approaches and experimental post-processing techniques. The sound computations and modal analysis will be validated against experimental data sets provided by Airbus. Consequently, you will be strongly involved in collaborations with Airbus, but also INSA-Lyon and DLR.

You will immerse yourself in an international context within aircraft development and research activities in connection with major Airbus partners. Your supervision will be ensured by LMFA at ECL, a reference research center in acoustics, turbomachinery and other fields of fluid mechanics.

Activities/Responsibilities

In close collaboration with LMFA engineers and project partners, you will adapt, extend and apply existing propagation tools in the context of the project. You will analyse the results and publish them in peer-reviewed journals.

Job requirements
